Anyone who has been following along on my pottery journey will know that I’ve spend the first part of this year really pouring into my business. I’ve been spending more time in the studio, accepting a wide variety of commissions, signing up for fall markets and a million other things.
Along the way, I have really been striving to spend the summer knocking out projects that I haven’t normally had the time to - or just have been putting things off for a while.
New shelves for my drying rack. Reorganizing the garage for more functional studio space (and making room for a home gym). Working with a designer to launch a brand-new website - complete with a branding photoshoot. Hiring an electrician come to rewire the garage so that I can work towards buying and installing a kiln which will be a huge step for growing my production.
While each of these very intentional projects has been happening, my “normal” work has continued. Creating new art for fall shows. Posting content on all my social platforms. Hosting my regular workshop offerings. That’s one of the wild things about owning a small business. There is no end to the number of things you could or should be doing.
But lately, there have been a few moments where there is a glimmer of something miraculous.
- Gaining a few hundred followers overnight
- Being invited into retail opportunities
- New restaurant partnership ideas
- Being hired to offer workshops
- Selling multiple private commissions
- Sold out workshops months in advance
Moments like these make my imposter syndrome start popping up. “Why is this happening to me?” “It’s just a fluke.” “Will this last?”
But as I go into this weekend, I’m just shrugging at it all and doing my best to take it in stride, letting the worry roll away. I do not always know what I am doing here in my little muddy corner of the world, but I’m going to keep doing what seems to be the best for me along the way and hope for the best!
Stay tuned for more updates on pottery shenanigans and little business adventures!
